Logitech Harmony 525

Posted by Shiny  Published in Gadget Reviews

I’ve been through alotta universal remotes, and this is the first one that i actually really really like.

The clever thing about this remote, it remembers what state everything is in - so i can switch from xbox mode to the apple airportexpress through to the hard drive recorder to … a gazillion other combo for all the different modes the home theatre needs to be in. It knows what state it left the tv, amp, wii and everything else in, so i knows all the signals to beam to get to the new mode.

eeePc, the laptop that’s actually a gadget

Posted by Shiny  Published in Gadget Reviews

I have a new laptop, and it’s finally small enough to be called a gadget.

aka eeeBuntu

This is the ASUS EeePc. Today you can buy the Linux version for $500, and the Windows version for $600 at DSE.

Continue on ‘More’ for the rest of the review.

When I bought mine 3 months ago they had sold out almost everywhere, so I got the last black eeePc in Wellington, the display model at Vivian street DSE. I had to walk through a crowd of fat men in sparkly pyjamas and cowboys hats to get it (there was a fire alarm at a brothel in vivian street.). It was worth it.

It’s an ultra-portable laptop, with 7 inch screen. It’s completely solid state, looks like it could be dropped a few times, and so light/small I take it nearly everwhere. It fits in some really tiny bags, so i don’t need my “please mug me I have a laptop” bags.

These gizmos are rather wonderful, especially the price tag, and passing the $100 savings from not buying windows directly onto the buyer.
